Privacy
Doodland (doodland.app). Last updated 31 October 2026. See also our Terms of Use and Help.
Doodland is a little notebook world for children and families: build your town, visit other cities and play in them together with friends. We keep as little as we can, we never show ads, we never sell or share anything about you, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Who we are
Doodland is made and run by taproute.io, which decides how the information described here is used (the “controller”). taproute.io also makes and runs Doodle Checkers (doodlecheckers.com). Contact: support@taproute.io.
Playing without signing in
You can play Doodland without an account. Then nothing about you is stored on our server: your town, the picture you play as and your settings stay on your own device (your browser’s local storage). Playing together with friends works without an account too (see below).
If you sign in
Doodland uses the same Doodle account as Doodle Checkers, so your Doodle name and your Doodle pet (My Doodle and its egg) are the same in both. When you tap Sign in, Doodland sends you to Doodle Checkers to sign in (or, if you are already signed in there, straight back). Doodle Checkers then tells Doodland only three things: your account number, when the account was made, and your made-up Doodle name (like “Zippy Fox”). We never receive or keep an email address or a real name.
Your account itself, your Doodle pet and everything you unlock by playing are kept by Doodle Checkers, under the Doodle Checkers privacy policy. While you play, Doodland asks Doodle Checkers which town things your account has unlocked and how your Doodle looks, and passes your Doodle’s egg actions (for example, finding your egg) to Doodle Checkers. Nothing else is shared between them.
With an account, Doodland stores:
- a copy of your account number, the date it was made and your Doodle name;
- your town: each city you have built in, as you left it (the things, the people you made and where they are), and when it was last saved;
- Town friends: if you play in a town together with another signed-in player, we remember that you two played together and which picture each of you played as. You become Town friends only when both of you say yes, and either of you can say no at any time. No names, no chat and nothing typed is kept or shown;
- a sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in to Doodland for up to 14 days (see “Cookies and storage”). Signing out of Doodland does not sign you out of Doodle Checkers, and the other way round.
Playing together
A town can have up to four players. Friends join with a code of four pictures, a link, or a Visit from a Town friend, and the host decides who comes in. Players see each other only as a picture and a character in the town: there are no names, no chat and no free text between players. A room exists only in the server’s memory while it is open; when it closes, the host’s town is saved to the host’s account (if the host is signed in) and nothing else is kept.
Keeping Doodland safe
Like every website, our server sees your internet address (IP address) when you connect. We use it only to stop abuse (for example, too many requests at once) and in ordinary server logs that help us keep Doodland running. Those logs are kept only for a short time and are then deleted automatically. We do not build a profile from it.
Cookies and storage
- dl_sess: keeps you signed in to Doodland, for up to 14 days. Only set if you sign in.
- dl_hs: used for a few minutes while you sign in, then removed.
- Storage on your device (your browser’s local storage): your town while you play (and a guest’s whole town), the picture you play as, and your settings.
These are all needed for Doodland to work as you asked. We use no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, so we do not show a cookie banner.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no ad networks, no analytics companies.
- No tracking across other apps or websites.
- No selling, renting or sharing of your data.
- No contacts, photos, camera, microphone or location. The sky in Doodland follows your device’s clock.
- Nothing to buy in Doodland.
Your choices, and deleting your data
- See your Doodland data: signed in, open doodland.app/api/me/export in the same browser. It downloads everything Doodland keeps about the account.
- Delete your towns and Town friends only: write to us from the contact below and we will do it for you. Your Doodle account stays.
- Delete everything: delete your Doodle account at Doodle Checkers (sign in on doodlecheckers.com, tap your name, then “Delete everything”). Doodle Checkers then tells Doodland straight away, and Doodland deletes your towns, Town friends, sign-ins and its copy of your account. Backup copies are removed within 14 days.
- Sign out: at any time.
Children
We built Doodland for children, so we collect no email address, no real name, no photos and no location. Children can play without an account. An account for a child under 13, or under the age set by the law of the child’s country (up to 16 in parts of Europe), must be created by or together with a parent or guardian, who agrees to it on the child’s behalf (the account is made at Doodle Checkers). A parent can review, download or delete a child’s data at any time (see above), or write to us.
Why we use it
- To save your towns, run rooms for playing together and keep you signed in: because you (or your parent) asked us to, under these terms.
- To keep Doodland safe and working (abuse limits, server logs): our legitimate interest in a safe, working game.
How long we keep it
- Towns, Town friends and the copy of your account: until you delete them or the Doodle account. Backup copies are removed within 14 days after that.
- Sign-ins: up to 14 days after you last played (at most 90 days), or until you sign out.
- Rooms for playing together: only while they are open.
- Server logs and abuse counters: a short time, then deleted automatically.
- Guests: nothing on our server.
Who else is involved
- Hetzner (Germany) hosts our server.
- Doodle Checkers (doodlecheckers.com, also taproute.io) runs the Doodle account, the sign-in and your Doodle pet, as described above. Its sign-in partner is Popin (popin.page), under the Doodle Checkers privacy policy.
We do not sell or share your data with anyone else. We would only disclose it if the law requires it.
Your rights
You (or a parent for a child) can ask us to see, correct, download or delete your data, to stop or limit using it, or object to how we use it. Write to us and we will answer within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer you can complain to a data protection authority: in Israel the Privacy Protection Authority, in the European Union the authority of your country, in the United Kingdom the ICO.
Where it is kept
Our server is in the European Union (Hetzner, Germany). Data is sent over an encrypted connection. Doodland is run from Israel, which the European Union recognises as giving data an adequate level of protection.
Contact
Questions, or a request about your data: support@taproute.io.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and for important changes we will tell signed-in players in Doodland first.
